![]() ![]() ![]() Note that this is a matter of individual perception though, i suggest you check out the difference yourself.īefore i started playing in VR i didn't like the Filmic filter but in VR it adds to the experience. Assuming you're using supersampling, FXAA (High quality) looks much better for VR in Subnautica and besides making things look crisper and clearer than TAA it's also more performance friendly but you might notice a little more aliasing in the base interiors. ![]() How to do that depends on which VR platform is used to launch the game (Mostly Steam VR, i'm not familiar with how the Epic launcher does it).Īnti-Aliasing: TAA looks good on a flatscreen but when it's in your face and the pixels are larger you notice that it blurs EVERYTHING, not just the 'jaggies' and makes it seem like you're swimming in soup. I highly recommend that you set the VR application supersampling to at least 1.5 before you start the game if you can, it makes a really big difference in the game. So this is all matter of taste and while you can use your flatscreen settings, some settings look different in VR: If you at any point is unable to reach items on the ground when you're out of the water the geometry might have bumped your head position upwards somewhat, just reset your position using any of the methods above to fix it. It's reset once you've entered your vehicle or base though. Misaligned anywhere else it will get fixed by simply entering your base/vehicle.Ĭreatures and cutscenes that forces your perspective can mess up your head alignment, especially the Mesmer is a bit more dangerous in VR as it forces your default head orientation to change and as Mesmers are mostly found in caves the disorientation it causes can make it very hard to find your way out. Note that this is only needed for the Seamoth and Prawn suit, should you get You can do this in the Steam VR dashboard settings for example. Unless you play in a swivel chair you will have to reset your seated position in vehicles occasionally because of a bug that sometimes turns your horizontal alignment when you enter. Having roomscale active will cause far more misalignment/height issues than having it turned off. ![]() Subnautica plays best as a seated experience, it ensures that your head aligns properly with your body in the game. Please comment if another HMD behaves differently. Note that all the different HMD's should work pretty much the same way and have the same issues but for the record i've been using a Mixed Reality headset and i will assume that people play with a hand controller á la xBox. With the game being released for free by Epic and VR becoming much more common with the release of Windows Mixed Reality I thought i'd post some tips and workarounds so other players know what to expect and how to deal with any issue they encounter. I think i've encountered all the main issues and they're really not that bad. Ever since VR was added though there's been talk about how 'broken' it is so i thought i'd clear that up. I'm a long time Subnautica player that started playing in VR a few weeks ago and it's probably the best VR experience I've had, it's the perfect VR game. ![]()
